According to new CDC data [9.8 MB, 89 pages] released today, nearly 3 in 5 (57%) U.S. teen girls felt persistently sad or hopeless in 2021—double that of boys, representing a nearly 60% increase and the highest level reported over the past decade. While all teens reported increasing mental health challenges, experiences of violence, and suicidal thoughts and behaviors, girls fared worse than boys across nearly all measures.
Scholarly articles for Statistics on adolescent girls
1 million girls under the age of 18 get pregnant annually. 1 out of 10 eighth grade girls smokes daily. 30% of adolescent girls have thoughts about suicide. The rate of depression among girls and women have doubled.
Why do girls drop out of school? (Mom Junction.com)
Poverty, financial struggles, and family issues are among the primary reasons girls drop out of school. Studies show that girls from underprivileged families are three times more likely to drop out of school (12). Other reasons include academic struggles, teenage pregnancy, lack of support from family and school authorities, etc.
Teenage can be a tricky stage to navigate since adolescents are simultaneously treated as both children and adults. Further, teenage girls may find it hard to cope with all the physical and emotional changes they experience during this stage. As a result, they may face and have many questions about teenage girl problems such as menstruation, dating, depression, issues with their sexuality, and friendships. The best way to help them cope with these situations is by ensuring they can rely on you for help. Though they may try to resolve some issues independently, knowing that you have their back can make all the difference.

Self-love is sincerely the best love. It is up to every individual to work hard to give themselves the love that everyone craves and desires. Through the ongoing process of learning who one is, what they need, and what they desire, a young person can reveal their truest self- the person that existed within, before seeking love outside of themselves. As this authentic version of oneself is unveiled, they develop skills to deal with their own needs first, in a way that brings true love, healing, and restoration to their lives. I believe a continued commitment to personal development and loving oneself will set a young person free. It will allow them to bloom and be the person they always wanted to be, and so much more!

Yolloxochitl in Nahuatl translates to “heart flower” in English. During precolonial times, it was believed to represent a loving and pure heart. It was used to cure all sadness, melancholy, chest pain, and would alchemist all your fears.
Healing happens in numerous ways, but there’s something magical that happens each time a loving matriarch gets to talk to a young lady. Not only are generational curses broken but ancestry strength is restored as well. Each female carries a yolloxochitl seed within their hearts, it just takes the proper amount of light, water, love, and protection to allow it to BLOOM. It is my pleasure to be part of this journey and to remind the younger generations of all the self love, self worth, and self esteem that we were not.

Empowering our young ladies with knowledge, education, self-love, and self-discipline, as well as leadership skills is essential for positive development and growth. Offering positive guidance through nurture and support, we can aid in their transformation into young women. Helping them tap into their leadership skills and acknowledge their self-worth and value are the tools necessary to achieve goals and break barriers. Learning from their mistakes and finding the light at the end of the tunnel during life's most challenging moments will allow then to BLOOM and recognize their own inner strengths and qualities, which is a recipe for success. I am honored to be a part of that journey!
Positive Friendships are made and nurtured! We help turn caterpillars into butterflies!
